Here’s what we did last night …
were tag team babysitting my two nieces and two nephews with my dad and
stepmom. It was a wild and crazy night! That’s us with my
newest nephew, Nicholas. What could be better than playing
with babies?
The strangest thing happened today. As I was coming back from the
mailbox, I saw out of the corner of my eye an envelope taped to the
wall, and it had my name on it! It turned out that it was from my
grandma. It was, of all things, an apology letter for some
judgemental comments she made at our lunch the other day. I was
shocked!
That is so unlike my
grandma. I called and spoke to her, and she was very
contrite. It sounds funny to say this, but I’m really proud of
her.
Toshi and I were planning to be in San Diego today, but we stayed at my
stepsister’s house playing with the kids too late last night. I
still wanted to go, but Toshi wasn’t feeling spontaneous. He
likes to “do research” and have things planned out. Or maybe I
should say he likes me to do
research and plan things, and to every suggestion he says,
“Sure. Whatever. I don’t care.” In case you can’t
already see where I’m heading with this, we had a “disagreement.”
He won, and we didn’t go.
Instead we grouched around the house today. Yep … fun. When I
finally couldn’t stand it anymore, I escaped to a teacher supply store
I had never visited before. I guess I really am a teacher,
through and through; I could practically feel my pulse quicken as I
stepped through the door and saw gobs and gobs of border for bulletin
boards. I spent three hours there, but I’m proud of myself
because I held my purchases down to $50 worth.
I’ll have to return to spend the lottery money we get from the state
every year. Thank you to people who play the lottery!
Quote of the Day:
Anyone who thinks the art of conversation is dead ought to tell a child to go to bed. ~Robert Gallagher
Things I am thankful for:
2. Grandma turning over a new leaf
3. new border
There’s a teachers’ store in Memphis that all of my teacher friends drool over. If you go on your birthday they take off all the tax. I know people who plan their whole birthday around that trip. You would too…..admit it!!!That picture of you, Toshi and Nicholas is really terrific. I know what you mean about doing all the planning. Mike and Barry do that to me all the time. I personally am sick to death of always being the one to do the research. Next time go alone, I think that’s what I’ll do. I think it’s a real break thru that your grandma apologised, WOW. I never had a grandma but if either one was anything like my mom an apology would be akin to a miracle. Somehow I get the feeling that this is what that note from your grandma was… a miracle. Glad you didn’t have a heart attack.
how cool!
I’m glad your grandma apologized – mine is getting better at that too I love that there are teacher supply stores!! That’s so cool . I’m telling you – this relationship thing is worse in our 30s. In our 20s, it was easy to just toss them over and look for something new…but it seems in our 30s, we’re reluctant to let go in case we’ve reached our limit for throwing away relationships
Good song!! My current anthem is Sarah McLachlan’s Perfect GirlIt’s sooooo fitting!

happy to hear about Grandma’s new leaf.
Glad to hear about Grandma! Sorry about the trip though…I love to get in the car without plans and just go! I love being on vacation, waking up and doing whatever I feel like! When does school start back for you?
just a random prop who … was very impressed with your grandma. my friend & i have been banging our heads why THAT generation is this or that. i gotta say, your grandma made a very classy & impressive move by apologizing =o) kudos to her!
