Wish me luck … tomorrow night I have to give two speeches at our
district board meeting … one an introduction for my student who is
one of our Students of the Year and the other an acceptance speech for
Teacher of the Year.

Yep, I am my school’s Teacher
of the Year, but before you get all excited there are a couple of
things you should know.  First, it is not that hard to be Teacher
of the Year at my school since we only have 15 teachers; everyone gets
a turn sooner or later.  Second, I was the only one left on the
ballot since unbeknownst to me, the other nominees withdrew because
they didn’t want to have to give a speech.

My mom is all excited anyway,
so my parents are going.  And Toshi will be there too, grumbling
because he has to wear a tie.

I’m
off to bed … gotta get up early to do battle with my hair.
Can’t give a speech in front of tons of people with schoolmarm
hair.

  1. Pffftt, they say that’s why they withdrew. The truth is they all knew no one stood a chance against you. Schoolmarm hair or not you ARE the teacher of the year. Besides giving speeches is a piece of cake. Give the speech directly to your mom, she will be so thrilled to be there that her positive body language and happy face will relax you in no time and then you’ll be able to scan the crowd and connect to your audience. That’s an old trick of mine I used to use when I sang in public.(back in the dark ages) I always started out singing to my kids or parents. They are the ones to gather strength and courage from. Congratulations! This is terrific news!

  2. hahahahha Eliza Jane at her best….lolol oh almanzo and eliza jane…she would have made me a little crazy too if i lived with her…though i suppose her heart was in the right place…she just needed a good man….oh god i hope i wont look like her when i get old…i got no valentine now if i look like her the odds just fell off the planet…wait not so …it is not the looks…it must be the fact that a guy does not want to be a valentine…lol ❤

  3. I think you’d have been chosen Teacher of the Year even if there had been 15 thousand other teachers…
    I bet Toshi’s sooo proud!
(Is there a cash prize attached… I hope? At least a big trophy? Okay, they better at least give ya some sort of plaque and gift certs!)
