It took me 2 HOURS to get home from work tonight!
Left at 5:15 and got home at 7:15. What makes that amazing is
that my school is less than 10 miles from my house.
The
freeway was closed in both directions for a mile stretch. There
were four helicopters hovering. All the radio reports said was
that the freeway was closed due to police activity. Well, yeah,
okay … I gathered that much. What kind of activity?
Poker? Lawnbowling? Come on … if you’re gonna leave me
sitting on the freeway for two hours at least give me a little more
than that! To make matters worse, the connecting freeway had an
accident in each direction, so once I managed to get off the freeway,
the local streets were hell, too. Good thing I had gas in my car,
had just downloaded some new music on my iPod, and used the restroom
right before leaving work.
Quote of the Day:
“From the South Bay to the Valley
From the West Side to the East Side
Everybody’s very happy
‘Cause the sun is shining all the time
Looks like another perfect day
I love L.A.!”
–Randy Newman “I Love L.A.”
Well, Randy, I beg to differ.
I just spent 2 hours under a dark, ominous sky with lots of very
grouchy folks … yep, another perfect day … can you tell how
much I love L.A. right now?
“If
they’d lower the taxes and get rid of the smog and clean up the traffic
mess, I really believe I’d settle here until the next earthquake.”

**UPDATE**
Here’s the news story:
“Authorities re-opened the 605 Freeway Thursday after a suspicious
package turned out to be a cast-iron pipe. The California Highway Patrol
said the package was found under the Arrow Highway overpass. The
package was found at about 5 p.m.CHP deputies diverted traffic onto
exit ramps and around the site of the investigation. After the bomb
squad investigated the package, they determined it was a cast-iron pipe
and took it away.”
so funny you mention this because our instructor for orientation was mentioning this today…about calling in to work if you are going to be late…especially for our jobs….the casino i work for employs about 15000 people for the 4 casinos in this location…you figure how many are coming into this city a day for workers alone and all the other casinos…if one accident happens it can really tie up things…she was in traffic 4 hours one day for a 15 min ride…the thing is ..alot of us forget that atlantic city is an island….so there are only a few ways into this city….ahhh just another reminder of how far my commute is….lol ….glad you made it home safe…that is what matters… warmth and LOVE…<3
I can’t imagine going an average speed of 5mph for 2 hours, that would make me crazy. Or even worse sitting for most of that time, I think I hate stop and go worse than slow. I bet that cabin is looking better and better everyday. You know the gov’t says we have nothing to fear and then they literally divert thousands of commuters for what turns out to be an empty tube, sounds like an atmosphere of fear to me, how about you?
My favorite thing is to play comedy CDs when there’s a huge traffic jam… so there I am stuck in traffic and I’m laughing my head off– imagine what that looks like to everyone else on the road who can see me…
