Field trip tomorrow to the LA County Museum of Art and I just realized
that I forgot to have the “beauty of the human form” discussion.
“If you were born in a place where they didn’t wear clothes, it
wouldn’t be a big deal …  bodies are bodies …  we all
have butts … the human body is beautiful.”  I try to cover all
the angles.  I did such a good job last time that one of my boys
caught another kid giggling at a protruding body part on a statue and
said, “Hey, it’s just a human body.  Why don’t you grow up
already?!”

It’s supposed to rain tomorrow, so keep your fingers crossed that our
picnic lunch doesn’t become a mudbath!  Okay … of to psych up
for a day of counting heads and ensuring that we don’t set off any
alarms or shock any of the hoity-toity “ladies who lunch” trying to
spend a quiet afternoon at the museum …

P.S. I wish I had cute little legs  … with real ankles and no
cupie doll knees,  perhaps just a little less like a telephone
pole?  Just a thought.  Thank you, hearty peasant stock
ancestors for yet another of your wonderful contributions to my
physique.   Oh, hey … on that
same note, I got an email from Eddie Bauer today.  They’re polling
their mailing list about a name for their new jeans made especially for
women with a waist one size smaller than their hips.  The choices
were ‘shaped’, ‘shapely’, or ‘curvy’.  Hey, how about
‘normal’?  I submitted my own … “pear o’ pants … for the
pear-shaped.”  So, if you’re ever in an Eddie Bauer store and
happen upon a “pear o’ pants” while perusing the shelves, you heard it here first!

  2. I was out ill the one day during student teaching that they had a field trip– it was to a rec center, not an art museum. I can’t say I’m upset I missed it, really, although I know that’s part of the job– less so in middle or high school, thankfully
